SYNOPSIS:  378 pages. Prisoners of Hope (1898) is the first novel by the Virginia-born writer Mary Johnston. An action-adventure story and romance set in Gloucester County in 1663, the novel is based in part on the Gloucester County Conspiracy, a planned rebellion by indentured servants who intended to march to the home of Governor Sir William Berkeley and demand their freedom.

Publisher: Houghton Mifflin & Co. No date found.

Format: Hardback. No dust jacket. NOT an EX LIB.

Condition: Volume in Poor condition. Listing only due to scarcity of volume. Green cloth boards with color graphic on front cover and gold foil lettering on spine. You can see by the pics the condition of the covers and also the binding which needs to be reglued. The title an copyright pages may be missing since it begins with dedication page, then a blank page and the table of contents. That may be the way it was published, but it is uncommon that nothing regarding the publisher or copyright date is included. A dark blue colored pencil number on dedication page. I do believe it to be an earlier version, however, due to the amount of age yellowing to the paper.  All inner pages are intact and free of marks and other flaws such as tears or holes, but fragile.
Photos illustrate condition of overall volume.

See Grading Scale page for explanation of grades. Photos of any obvious condition issues will be provided.
