"In the 19th century , a member of a ducal family commits a crime. He wanted to repent by imposing on himself a hard penance to gain his redemption by living the life of lumberjacks and rough men from Cotentin in the moors around La Haye-du-Puits and on the outskirts of the Sensurière marsh. Monsieur Louis" arrives like a mysterious man in this Cotentin, his hands gloved with heavy canvas which helps fishermen carry their heaviest loads. Some suspect him of being a leper because of the gloves he never takes off. Some move away from him. Many are afraid. He suggests that he no longer wants to see his hands, due to serious injuries.Living in a hut in the moors near the abbey of Blanchelande where the pious Madame de Tallard (her daughter) lives, the man in the canvas gloves gradually overcomes his torments, seeking to overcome his old obsession and finding the finish of appeasement in God and a fresh love."
