The novel tells the rags-to-respectability tale of orphan Chad Buford. It was the first novel to sell a million copies in the U.S. Fox's depiction of black characters was held against it from the 1960s..."

Format: Hardback and dust jacket. NOT an EX LIB.

Condition: Jacket in Acceptable Condition with edge bumping, chipping, soiling and age yellowing.  Unclipped flaps. Tan tweed board covers in Good Used condition, typical age yellowing around edges. Inner pages Good Used condition with typical age yellowing, a signature of previous owner (not the author's) with his embossed private library seal on title page. No markings, tears, or flaws, and pages remain flat, clear, and bright. Somewhat collectible in this format. Photos illustrate condition of overall volume.
