Ceremony of the Innocent by Taylor Caldwell 1976 HBDJ BCE

SYNOPSIS:  422  pages. Young and beautiful Ellen Porter learns to distrust the men who wish to shape her destiny in a small Pennsylvania town at the turn of the century. Panned by critics who both loved and hated this allegorical story about the character (allegorically America) set in the period just after the Civil War. Love it or hate it, it certainly makes one think.
