SYNOPSIS:  448 pages. Palacios, Rafael (Cartography Artist) (illustrator). A Photographic Encyclopedia of travel to foreign lands. The pictures are sights you could have seen if you went on a tour around the post-WWII world of the mid-1950s. B&W photos except for full color photos on DJ & end papers. Photographs acquired from many sources: travel companies, government agencies and individual photographers. Foreword by Richard Joseph (1910-1976), writer of travel books and the travel editor of Esquire magazine since 1946. Mr. Joseph served three terms as president of the New York Travel Writers Association, and received a number of awards for his travel articles. He won the travel journalism award of the American Society of Travel Agents in 1950, 1951 and 1956, and four awards in the 1960's from the Pacific Area Travel Association. He was given the Ordre de Mérite Touristique of France in 1962, and Italy's Star of Solidarity for furthering Italian¿American friendship. A. Milton Runyon (1906-1983) was an executive vice president of Doubleday & Company. Vilma F. Bergane (1907-2004) served as Vice President and Secretary of Book of the Month Club. Both editors were skilled and well-known in publishing circles of the time. Rafael D. Palacios (1905¿1993) was a Puerto Rican-American freelance artist and illustrator specializing in book jackets and maps for major U.S. publishers in the mid- and late 20th century.

Format: Hardback with dust jacket. NOT an EX LIB.

Condition: Jacket in Acceptable condition with edge tearing and chipping, rubbing, and soiling. Front flaps ever so slightly clilpped as part of publication process, but original $7.50 retail still show in front flap. Volume in Very Good+ condition. Blue cloth boards with black spine cover and gold foil lettering on spine. Boards have very minor signs of wear. Inner pages clean, bright, and no markings, tears, or flaws noted. Tightly bound.
