An Artist?

The word artist conjures images of paints, brushes, pastels, charcoal, pencils and canvas. In a broader sense, sculpture and photography come to mind. The quilting world has finally managed to prove itself as an artistic medium and now eBay introduces an artisan cut from entirely new fabric.

With a wide variety of fabrics in varying colors and textures as her palette, and lace, ribbon, trims, buttons and fur for her frames, the eBay artisan works her wonder to create masterpieces of design and fashion. Wearable art. Whether an ensemble designed for portraiture or a simple dress for a Saturday afternoon tea, the eBay artisan has an eye for harmony, style and grace.

Cont'd from column one

"I think it's an apt comparison myself, to any eBay designer. Just because an artist is an artist, does not make him a good artist. I don't like most of what is called 'art' today but that doesn't mean it isn't art. It means, in my opinion, that it is bad art. Those artists would likely call what I would create, if I was that type of artist, 'boring art' or 'uninspired'. It's a matter of taste. If everyone liked the same thing, it'd be a very boring world."

This translates easily into fashion speak. If every designer created identical clothing out of identical fabrics, we would all walk around looking like members of a world-wide school. It is the diversity of design and taste that gives the fashion world a culture of it's own.

The easiest place to find this diversity in fashion is none other than eBay. Known for fabric artisans the world round, it is only on eBay that you can find hundreds of one-of-a-kind (OOAK) outfits in one quick and easy place. A virtual gallery of artist offerings at your fingertips. As Chautona Havig said when we talked to her, "Artistry with a needle and thread is just one more way of defining yourself as a person."
